In this report, I have summarised two innovation projects, namely the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) project and the Ultra-High-Voltage project. The V2G project takes a novel approach to quantifying the potential peak demand reductions from smart charging and V2G services. The modelling performed considers predictions for the future behaviours around the adoption of EV technologies and smart charging capabilities. The HVDC project is driven by the need to significantly increase transmission network capacity to meet future demand. Ultra-high-voltage solutions beyond 400kV AC for both overhead and underground transmission are considered, and compact tower designs are proposed.
