The 2nd quarter of my E.S. Cornwall Memorial ran from 1st November 2016 to 28th February 2017.
My report here that covers this period discusses and reflects on the final work conducted for ABB’s Microgrid and Distributed Generation Research and Development team in Genova, Italy, and Strategen and the California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA) in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both placements focused on assisting with the challenges discussed.
Specifically, these areas were:
1. Modelling PV power plant controllers to provide auxiliary services
2. Grid modernisation consulting to Hawaiian utilities
3. Primary frequency response phase two initiative
4. CESA blog – Flexibility of Energy Storage
See my post here on “the three S’s of Energy Storage – Swift, Shiftable and Scalable”
During my time working in Italy and California there were a variety of learnings, however five key aspects applicable to the Queensland Power Industry are described in my 2nd quarterly report.
