I commenced my E. S. Cornwall Memorial Scholarship in July 2018, working with the California Independent System Operation (CAISO). My first quarterly report is here.
My first report (accessible here) is an overview that covers the period July 2018 to September 2018. This report outlines my contributions and impressions made during my time at CAISO.
During this period I visited the CAISO to observe the Transmission Planning Process (TPP), with most of my time focused on the TPP Reliability Assessment and the Pacific Northwest Informational Special Study. Other areas of learning included an assessment on the integration of large-scale solar generation and a distributed energy resource impact study as part of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Modelling and Validation Work Group (MVWG). Some insights are provided in my report.
This report does not cover all my contributions during my time at CAISO – focusing on insights particularly relevant to Australia and my scholarship theme.
I look forward to sharing with colleagues upon my return, and I also look forward to feedback from readers here.
